Southend Summer Classic 8.4.24

Another year, another Southend Summer Classic brought to you by Backyard Boogie and Filthy Seattle. If you aren’t familiar, now you are. We bring in several vendors to showcase their business and put others on with what they got to offer. It’s also a car meet, so people can just pull up and enjoy the scene. We had 3 events last year, and they were all a success. For 2024, we did something slightly different by only hosting 1 and also did a curated car show. I had the honor of helping out with the car show portion since I love doing that. Many people applied, and of course we had send out some personal invites to some heavy hitters. It was a long & hot day, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time with the community! Props to my bros Ben Malla and Caspar Hill for making this happen again. Shoutout to everyone for coming out to kicking it and supporting all the dope vendors forreal. The next one will always be bigger and better!

We got in around 6 am right when the gates opened to reserve the spots. Glad to say the whole roll-in process went a lot smoother than I thought.

When I co-hosted the EKs & Coffee meet a little over year ago, Deebo Thach replied to one of my stories saying that he needs to finish his EK. I had no idea he was building one this whole time until that point. Deebo was on crunch time this past month to finish the EK to debut at our event. Everything came out sleek, especially the paint, thanks to the Boogie boys Ben and Rocky Sek.

It was a surprise that Terry Suvonnarith was able to make time and show out with his legendary GS-R. It was an honor to have the hometown hero pull up and kick it with us.

Ken Sugawara hauling the fam in his immaculate EK. He slapped back on the Mugen SS lip and Type-R wing this time. Ken just picked up a new wing for the car, and I’m sure it’s gonna be heat when he puts it on.

My Pham brought out his #SunBreak64 Impala. He built a whole new hydraulic set-up, and this year was the first time in a few years he showed it off. So fire! I’ll most likely do a solo feature with My eventually, along with his DC Integra.

One of the most fire line-ups you’ll see in the Southend.

After I staged the car show, I walked around and checked out some of the vendors.

One of my favorite vendors were SEAshucked, an oyster & caviar caterer from Seattle. I was stoked that they applied to be a part of the event, mainly because it’s different from what we’ve had and I just love fresh oysters in general. I gotta say they were some of the best aphrodisiacs I’ve had! Things got me bricked up early in the day 🤣 On a serious note shoutout to Theresa, Kayren, and the rest of the SEAshucked crew for holding it down. I’m definitely gonna book them whenever I marry a fire ABG lady.

Jarren Maguddayao has been a nonstop show-up for every event we had. Love his dedication to the game and how much he’s put into THRFTDUAGMRKT. Definitely a top notch thrifter out here.

The Godoy family honors JayJay with a pop-up offering some fire Filipino food. JayJay was a great family man and was well known from a lot of people. I remember meeting him a long time ago back when Ben was still cutting people up in his garage. We weren’t close, but I respected him. I remember his son saying, “Sup foo!” to us lol. Gotta give props to his fam for doing this. It’s all love 💙 Thank you Kuyang JayJay Filipino Kitchen!

Rosalyn Chan does a lot under her business, Infamous Artistry. From ombre brows, to tattoos, and even lashes… She can do it all!

Your hosts always come out with the fresh merch.

I wanna highlight all the vendors, but too much going on… Back to cars 😅

I noticed that Terry usually drives his Integra around with the Spoon lip. It makes sense though since he doesn’t wanna risk the FEEL’S lip from getting damaged. Good thing he has an extra bumper for that set-up lol.

Omar Sa was able to pull up last minute in his supercharged E92 M3, since his LA trip got cancelled. Always appreciate the old homie’s support.

Curtis Dillon traded his ‘68 ragtop Impala for Tomas Burns’ ‘78 Impala. Nice to know that both cars went to good homes. Excited to see what they got cooking for the old schools.

My Pham will always have support from his friends & fam, especially his cousin Ashley Nguyen.

Everyone was out & enjoying the Honda Motocompactos, including the homegirl Vicki Tran.

Boeuth Beua wasn’t able to make it out since he was out of town, but thankfully his cousin Viesna Nhet, who painted this car, brought out his show quality GS300 for him. This car still amazes me every time I see it. Love the new custom taillights representing both Cambodia & Philippines!

Jayson Cruz from Skreet Garage cruised in with a nice convoy. He was having some minor issues since he hasn’t really driven it that much lately, but still glad he showed out to support.

Ron’s clean 240SX fitted with a Type X kit and Work VSKF wheels.

Bagged black cherry pearl LS430 on Weds Kranze Cerberus wheels. If I recall, Jayson used to own this car too.

Sleek S2000 rocking a Voltex kit and Advan TC-4 wheels.

AJ Cruz’s boosted S2000 equipped with a Powerhouse Amuse GT1 wide body kit and TE37SL’s.

Dan Nguyen was a last minute add on to the Skreet Garage fleet, but always good to have him show out regardless.

Alex Thach did some nice tuning to his EM1 by adding on these hefty Kinsler ITB’s. They sound so good, and he makes some good power.

One of my favorite things on Alex’s car is his custom painted valve cover done by Viesna Nhet himself. So fire! This was what helped give Alex the ‘Best Engine Bay’ award.

Cavie Amm scored another raffle from Fred de Leon. This time he came up on some gold RG1’s. Looking good homie!

Alex Tran’s Del Sol and Winson Mang’s EG6 shining bright under the sun.

Nic Buettner made a trip back home for the weekend to show out his wicked GR Corolla.

You know we had to have some VIP cars in the mix. Shoutout to my dawgs Teddie Pequet and Kevin Chhun for always coming through!

I’ve always posted Austin Hironaka’s Del Sol before, but I gotta show his boosted CR-V on mag blue CE28’s some love.

Wooty Nam had a little incident during a cozy run a couple months ago, but that didn’t stop him from rebuilding and ripping the streets!

Ekk Sengchantha’s millenium jade K24 E30 looking prime in this heat.

It’s been years since I’ve last seen Lorenzo bring out his K-swapped MR2. Nice to see it running and pop out for once.

Black on bronze… You can never go wrong, especially with Sam Preng’s DB1.

Since we were very limited with the amount of cars we showcased, we had to be conservative with the awards given out.

Best Honda - Ken Sugawara - 2000 EK hatch

Best Acura - Sharky S. - DC2 Integra Type-R

Best Engine Bay - Alex Thach - EM1 Civic

Best Paint Job - Viesna Nhet - Lexus GS300

Best Import - Kevin Chhun - Lexus LS400

Best Domestic - Thomas Hatcher - Chevy El Camino

Filthiest Whip - Ekk Sengchantha - K24 E30

Best Boogie Build - Deebo Thach - EK hatch

Car of the Park/Best of Show - Terry Suvonnarith - Acura Integra GS-R

One thing I should’ve mentioned is that Terry rarely ever comes out. Other than Wekfest or a major event, I know he has other priorities to take care of rather than car stuff. So for him to show out for us truly meant a lot. Is there a surprise that he took home the ‘Best of Show’ award? Hell no lol. I’ve made it clear before that Terry’s Integra is a staple for the PNW.

Proper preparation prevents poor performance… And best believe everything is prepared properly with this build.

Terry added on a nice pair of Recaro Pro Racer RMS bucket seats. So filthy!

JRZ RS Pro dampers mounted beautifully on the rear strut bar.

Jay Ryan Alejaga came through with his ‘66 Impala as well. He has many projects, but this one is just a simple cruiser for him.

Another angle of Deebo’s EK hatch. A classic look with the SiR bumpers, carbon hood, and RE30s. He’s the first one, that I know of, up here to rock the Mode Parfume lip and I fuck with it!

Simple and elegant DC2R. Sharky stays keeping it that way with all his cars.

We parked the Boogie cars up top to leave room for everyone else in the main lot. Gotta make it fair for the show cars and spectators.

Holly Phan taking a shot to celebrate a great day. Much love to the Alphabet Vodka gang for the bottle!

Shoutout to the squad for making this happen!

Brotherhood fasho 👐🏼

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for the next one!
