Spocom Hawaii 2022 Part 2

Now that my day job has slowed down from the busy season, I was able to spend the last week wisely and finished editing the remaining photos from the show. ALthough I am mad at myself because there were a few cars that I missed from snapping a photo of, even though my dumbass was confident I caught everything I wanted. So if your car isn’t featured in here, it wasn’t because I didn’t like it. Bare with me I’m always occupied during shows and have way too much going on in my head, but I hope y’all enjoy this second part regardless.

This is probably the most 2JZ’s I captured in a single photo. Epic!

There wasn’t a single flaw on Josh Harada’s IS300, rocking a full Altezza TRD Neo V1 kit and a fresh set of Work Equip 05 wheels. Although this wasn’t the highlight of his build…

The car is powered by a fully built 2J swap paired with Individual Throttle Bodies custom made in Japan. I don’t think this has ever been done before on the island. Josh turned a lot of heads and won 1st place ‘Best Lexus’!

The MK3 Supra is still an underrated chassis, but it’s fortunate to have enthusiasts like Martin Phan who can build a car properly. He opted to run diamond black Volk Racing TE37’s instead of his Desmond Wise Sports.

The JZfilth crew killed it at their first show appearance. They learned a lot and know how to make things better for next year’s event. Shoutout to Lia, Martin, & Gabe!

Da local bull, Justin Whaley, has built some awesome drift cars in the past. I’m used to seeing his 2J IS300, but this time he debuted his sleek 240SX equipped with a built SR20DET, Type X kit, Work VS-KF’s, and Endless brakes.

Clean S14 Kouki representing Car Shop Refresh on chrome Work Emotion XT7 wheels.

Seems like XT7’s are getting a lot more popular nowadays, unless I’m super late to the game lol. Not really a fan of them to be honest, but to each their own!

Another clean S14 Kouki with Ganadors and TE37SL’s.

Taka Soma’s supercharged S2000 rocking an Amuse R1 front bumper and matte blue gunmetal Volk Racing ZE40’s.

Brandon Kim had a booth for his State Farm career and displayed his S2000 CR suited with a Voltex Racing kit, EVS Tuning mirrors, diamond black TE’s, Spoon brakes, and HKS Supercharger.

Boosted AP2 from AP Garage using an ASM front bumper and OG bronze TE’s.

Jon Natividad’s widebody AP2 sporting a Sorcery front bumper and TE37V’s.

There’s a reason why Chris Calimlim’s IG & license plate is “2JZFTW'“ and this explains it all. Beautiful set-up!

I mentioned before that I don’t know much about WRX’s in general, but Shayne Javier seems to be doing it right making some great power with his STi. Apparently he makes around 700+ hp, so watch out for this fast guy 😉

Super Mike Nasty always has the greatest support, especially with his lady Kimberly Ann by his side 💛.

It’s pretty crazy that 17 year old Isaiah Lampitoc owns this R33 Skyline installed with a lot of Top Secret parts, Ganadors, and TE37VSL’s.

Glad I finally met some Liberty VIP members down here including Bryant Delacruz with his Aimgain Q50 on TE37SL’s. It was great chopping it up with him, and we’re hoping the Seattle bros, Josh Bolduc & Teddie Pequet, make it down for next year’s event. Bryant took home 3rd place ‘Best Infiniti’.

Another Liberty VIP member I met was DayLin Masariano with his VIP Aimgain GS.

Matt Le was all smiles with his A90 Supra souped up with a carbon EVS Tuning front lip, Voltex Swan Neck GT Wing, and Advan GT wheels. Such a baller daily he has, but what do you expect coming from a guy that’s sponsored by Pho 777!

The homegirl, Jas Du, wanted a photo with this awesome first gen Toyota Hilux from OSIxHI.

Del Sumailo’s killer engine set-up that powers his TE27 Corolla.

Well put-together TA27 Celica owned by Stay Tuned Okinawa.

Clean Datsun 510 representing OSIxHI. From what I heard this has an SR20 swap, and the owner gets down on the track every now & then.

Travis Poepoe’s clean & simple R32 on TE37SL’s parked right at the entrance of the arena.

Shaun Hamada displayed his sick R33 GT-R on Nismo LMGT2 wheels at his booth, Hamada Financial Group.

Aran Shintani debuted his 981 Cayman GT4 sporting a Marlboro livery and gold TE37 Ultras.

It’s always nice to see Joanna Shintani come out & hang with the car community. It’s not just because she has an awesome car, but she’s a real cool friend as well! Really love her GPW NSX utilizing a Comptech Supercharger and some classic bronze MF10’s. Joanna took home 1st place ‘Best Acura’. Well deserved!

The RedZone crew had a legit line up displaying a lot of well built Hondas. Jeremy Duarte’s DB8 ITR has been around the industry for a long time now. I remember seeing his car all over the forums over a decade ago, and it’s still running strong. Good thing he works on cars because I see all over IG that he tends to take a beating on his car lol, but I’m sure he enjoys it a lot. Jeremy took home the ‘Best Engineering’ trophy - another prestigious award from Spocom.

I’m glad Jeremy’s wife, Nisa Duarte, brought out her legit ‘97 N1 Spec Civic Type-R. This car is well put-together in & out including a K-swap paired with Kinsler ITB’s, Volk Racing CE28 Time Attack Editions, and of course all the painted accents inspired by her favorite Disney character, “The Little Mermaid”. Even her hair and makeup is the same color! She succeeded and won 1st place ‘Best Honda’. It was great catching Nisa & Jeremy since this was their last local show, as they packed up & just moved back to the mainland.

JR’s K-swapped EK hatch using many K-Tuned goodies and OG mag blue TE’s.

Never seen a boosted F20C set-up as crazy as this S2000 owned by William Cala.

Clean K-swapped Integra sedan on OG bronze TE’s built by Devin Douglass.

Jr Tiangco’s EK has came a long way compared to how it looked like before. Love everything about it including the J Blood front bumper, J’s Racing fenders, TE’s, and of course the K-swap with ITB’s. Not sure what the tennis balls were for, but oh well…

I’m pretty sure some of you are wondering why this midori EK looks so much similar to Jr’s hatch, but that’s because this car was previously owned & built by him as well. Unfortunately he had to sell the car, but it definitely went to a good friend Unko Zam who continues to perfect this masterpiece. Zam added many nice parts to his car, and seemed to be the only one rocking Mugen M7’s. It was a solid crowd pleaser, and Zam was able to score 3rd place ‘Best Honda’.

Ronald Fagaragan brought out his boosted Phoenix Yellow EK hatch fitted with a Chargespeed lip, PCI Drag sides, and OG bronze TE’s.

Loved this imported Honda Orthia on aggressive Racing Hart C2’s.

Oliver Olipares from One Up Garage came through with his super clean EK hatch. This caught my eye since not many people rock a legit Airwalker front bumper anymore. A lot of nice details on this car including the NSX calipers behind the MF10’s, and the 15 year old paint still looks great. I didn’t get the chance to snap a photo of his bay, but he does have a K-swap as well.

A true OG in the scene, Mark Real, debuted his sick DC Integra suited with a nostalgic livery with brands from back in the day including “Alphanumeric” and his old crew “Team Rice.” I remember seeing it a quick glimpse that morning outside the arena and knew it was something I had to look into. Everything flows so well with the Subaru colorway paint job, OG mag blue CE’s, Spoon brakes, numerous braided lines, and fully built K-swap with Hayward Performance ITB’s. This car is true to the “Backyard Boogie” game, and I respect that a lot since that’s me & the homies are all about.

Another fire debut was Bryan Bonilla’s EF hatch equipped with a JDM EF9 front end, Cusco cage & seats, J’s Wing, K24/K20 swap with Hayward Performance ITB’s. The list goes on & on with mods! Really digged the staggered SSR wheel set-up with Type C’s for the front and Type X’s in the rear. Bryan killed it and won 1st place ‘Best Old School’! I was hoping to check out this car the same day as Mark’s Integra, but the timing was bad. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year!

Gotta save the best for last and include a photo of their famous Bikini Contest 😅 Surprisingly there weren’t that many contestants this year, but it is what it is. Congrats to Akira Win for becoming Miss Spocom Hawaii 2022! Get ready for the vlog because you’ll see most of the Bikini Contest coverage there.

This wraps up my Spocom Hawaii coverage, and of course I’m looking forward to next year’s show! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the vlog!
