Wekfest Seattle 2021 Part 1

Wekfest finally returns to Seattle after 2 years! I’ve attended a good amount of their gatherings in different states over the past decade, and I must say that they host one of the best car shows in the country. Most of the registered cars are nothing but high-quality builds, and it’s something everyone looks forward to every year. Until this day, I strongly believe the Pacific Northwest is still underrated with a lot of hardcore enthusiasts putting together some top notch work. Though this is why it’s great having events like this up here so that we can get more noticed & exposed to the whole industry. On the day of the show, I had just found out that this was the first Wekfest since the pandemic started. So yeah this was definitely a big deal to a lot of people. I wasn’t expecting the whole Lumen Field Event Center to be all the way full of cars due to the show being held in October and the big possibility of rain. Usually about a quarter of the registered cars in the past were from Canada, but with all the restrictions going on it was obvious they weren’t going to attend. Nonetheless the turnout was still great in my opinion! Just a heads up: my coverage wasn’t the best this year. There was too much going on in my head and every time I tried to make my rounds & get some photos, I would always run into someone I knew or haven’t seen in a long time and chopped it up with them. It wasn’t really a downside since I still got to network with a good amount of people, but overall I still had fun! So yeah don’t expect a lot of photos in this blog post or even the next one. For those that entered their car this year and expecting a photo to be featured, go punch air lol. There’s always next year and if you can’t wait for that, book me for a proper photoshoot. Enjoy!

This was a big year for my bros over at @backyardboogieseattle with the debut of Derek Malla’s [@derekmulla] Imola Orange EF hatch. We made sure there was proper preparation the whole week & everything was good to go the night before.

The Boogie man Sven Malla [@svenmalla] coming out harder than ever with his EF sedan. A lot of nice pieces that I never knew existed were added to the exterior and so many goodies under the hood! You’ll see in Part 2 for more details about this year being a huge deal for the fam.

One car I was looking forward to seeing was Josh Velasco’s [@vc_josh] widebody IS300 Sportcross sitting nice on Blitz 03’s. He actually does slang a good amount of rare JDM wheels, parts, & accessories under @vc_garage.hi. Sometime in the near future I’ll set up a proper shoot with him and feature him on here where you can get more details.

A side shot just because this thing is so hard, plus my guy Bo was right behind him lol. Toyota boyz!

The homies from Eazy Duz It Car Club always show out hard with their lowriders. They only brought out the G-Bodies, but nothing wrong with that! Edgar Corado’s [@mrcarneasada] ‘80 Monte Carlo and Jimmy Ojeda’s [@jimmy_ojeda6] ‘87 Monte Carlo Luxury Sport. I believe Edgar drove in the Continental up front and the bro Rickie Sok [@rickiesok] pulled in the ‘80’s Baby’.

Demitri Dolan’s [@demitridolan] ‘79 Monte Carlo aka ‘Knight Train’ rolling in with another clean MC.

Antonio Sandoval [@gantonio575] always flexing hard with the 3 wheel action on his ‘81 Regal. For those that didn’t know, this used to be Sven’s old Regal. Antonio has been putting it to proper use after installing hydraulics and other proper lowrider goodies.

The man himself, Joey Lee [@stickydiljoe], getting some coverage of Sven’s EF sedan. It was at this moment I knew for sure that Ben really made something amazing for himself to the point where a lot of OG’s in the game respected him even more.

Cy Gines’ [@cy.refine] ‘95 Toyota Crown, that you might have seen on my previous blog post, won ‘Sedan of the Festival’. He actually sold it the week of Wekfest and brought the car out one more time before it went to the new owner. She will be missed, but Cy already has another project he’s working on so I’m definitely looking forward to that!

The bro, Sydarith Bo [@sbo253] from @eastsidescrapers, pulled up in his bagged ‘82 Toyota Crown on custom 3 piece Enkei EK82’s built by @chamorroboy86.

Tristan Besabe’s [@wusaabe] R32 GT-R on Advan Racing TC-III’s and a super clean Kouki S14. He has one of the sickest motor setups I’ve seen in an R32. Go check out his IG because my dumbass didn’t take a photo 😅 Before I took this photo I walked up to his dark tinted windows to say wassup, but once the window rolled down it ended up being the homie, Marion [@mfi.sea], bringing in the car for him lol. Apparently Tristan was on a flight back from Arizona during this moment.

Danny Vasquez’s [@danny332m] M3 converted E46 Wagon. I remember seeing this for the first time at Wekfest Seattle 2018 when it was NA with a S54 swap, Fluid MotorUnion velocity stacks and on Work Brombacher wheels. I was amazed because I had never seen something like this in person. Now it’s boosted on BBS E88’s! He won ‘BMW of the Festival’ again!

Thomas Hatcher’s [@thomass.86] crazy Trailblazer SS on mag blue TE37’s with FK8 Type R Brembo brakes. Another crazy motor setup with a turbo bigger than your head that you need to see for yourself! He took home ‘Domestic of the Festival’.

Huy Hoang’s [@wiiizzer] immaculate Mugen equipped RSX aka ‘Redrum’. Everyone knows who he is especially since he’s been featured everywhere, so no need to get into detail lol. Not surprising he won ‘Acura of the Festival’.

Mel Diego’s [@hur1cnehov] EP3 and Brian’s [@frozen_lumpua] EG hatch waiting to get checked in.

Mikee Andrada [@miketiga] brought not one, but both of his fully built cars. He came through in his boosted K20 swapped EK coupe while his wife drove in the ITB K24 swapped EK hatch. There’s a reason why he’s described as one of the best fabricators in the industry, and you’ll see that in the second part of my coverage.

Amber Andrada [@hishaolegirl], Mikee’s wife, mentioned that she regretted waiting until summer was done to actually drive the hatch. Don’t worry Amber! Just take the keys whenever you want! The car suits you more better anyways! 😆

Kenneth Edwards’ [@radar__r] amazing DC2 Type R. So much work and proper parts were put together in this build. I’m pretty sure a lot of people still don’t know that it’s supercharged too 👀 I swear every time I see this car he’s always rocking a different set of wheels. This time he’s on some clean yellow TE’s with blue decals matching the interior. Love the color combo, Radar! Congrats on winning ‘Integra of the Festival’!

Never seen a flawless EK? Welp, now you have! Jacob Reyes [@ekstinction_survivor] actually showed out with his ‘00 DX hatch. The attention to detail on this thing is straight up jaw dropping. Original paint, super rare JDM goodies you probably never seen, Mugen parts that are worth an arm & leg, the list goes on forever! Everything is '“MINTY” [his favorite word 🤣]!

Was it necessary to rock two different Mugen wheels? Most definitely. Jacob recently acquired these 4x100 16x7 Mugen M7’s with a +45 offset. He was talking to us the night before the show and said that there are only 5 sets in the country! Super crazy. He really deserved the ‘Restomod of the Festival’ award!

The hometown hero, Terry Suvonnarith [@spriggan380] from Team Trik Speed, ‘01 GSR on 17” Mugen MF10’s. This car is a true OG build and always evolves every time I see it in person.

Another OG build is Pow Pinprasert’s [@twincam03] EG hatch. This thing has been tucked in the garage for over 15 years! I’m glad Pow finally revived it and brought it out this year for the public to see & enjoy. So clean, so dope, and so nostalgic!

Everyone’s favorite tire installer, judge, & critic Tony Dau [@lcmgarage] with his 911 GT3 on mag blue TE’s. Don’t let him catch you at a show because he’ll find every flaw on your car & put your ass on blast on IG 🤣

Jayson Cruz from Skreet Garage [@_skreetgarage] in his LS swapped IS300. He definitely gets down in his shop building customer cars and does hardcore drifting on the track & of course the streets since he’s ratchet haha. He kept on having to shut off his car every 20 feet during roll in since it was overheating LOL!

I don’t think I’ll ever see myself in an exotic, but I will always admire them especially Lamborghini Aventadors like Jag Matto’s [@jags_avi] LP700. The sound of the V12 motor will always turn me on! 🤤

I’ll always have a soft spot for G Wagons, and this one really hit hard owned by Dr. T Kannilaoshi [@dr.tkannilaoshi] hauling in a Ducati. Loved the wrap color from @emwraps and Lussuosos wheels from @simbolo_x_wheels.

It was nice to see this full carbon GT-R again that is now owned by Danny Fast [@dfastman_]. First time I seen this car was at the Super Street LeMay show in 2019. So dope in person and from what I hear it’s stupid quick. I’m hyping him up because my awesome ABG friend Metree Ngeth [@metree_n] works with him lol.

I didn’t notice it until about halfway, but there were hella BMW’s that showed up! It’s been the new wave of Hondas I suppose lol.

Nicholas Nguyen’s [@niccuhles] Alpine White E90 M3 sitting hard on OG bronze Volk Racing CE28’s. This 6 speed manual with a slick top seems to be a grail in the community. I’m just copying his recent caption from when he picked it up haha!

The King, Steve Kwan [@rich_h0mie_kwan], made it out with his rare Imola Red slicktop E46 M3 on 18” Desmond Regamaster EVO II’s. When Steve first showed me photos of this lowkey project last summer, I told him that all he was missing were Regas since they’re the best wheels ever. It’s crazy because he was already planning on getting them too. Perfect setup my brotha! 👌🏼

Jacob Saw’s [@jsaw_91] E90 M3 on mag blue TE’s. It’s funny because I had just met Jacob a month before at a day party and he was talking about how we have mutual Northend friends and that he tracks his car. Looks great man!

It’s cars like this that makes me want one, but I know for damn sure they’re money pits and they can be a headache too lol.

Petar Nikolic’s [@petarvnikolic] clean E60 M5 on BBS E88’s. I didn’t formally meet him at the show, but I figured he’s cool from IG and since he rolled in with the other homies.

Saving one of the best for last. My guy, John Zuberek [@slowprogress], rolling in with his gal, Chloe Vazquez [@chlolani], in his super sick E30 M3 on OG TE’s! I give John so much props because he actually drives his car whenever, wherever, no matter what’s the weather.

This concludes Part 1 of my coverage. Like I mentioned earlier, don’t expect a huge variety of content. But yeah thanks for looking & reading! Stay tuned for Part 2! 🤙🏼
